Walking Boston

There is a fine line
or a line at all?
That separates patriot
from rebel.

Both bleed and die
for pieces of paper
and flag unfurled.

Both are born in smokey taverns,
basements,
or coffeehouses
to discuss
golden futures
and dawning dreams.

Both live or die broken
against the imagination
of a nation.

What would you fight for?

Ant

Little Nephew
playing with a carpenter ant
I'll let you play
because you have so little
control
over so much
just play nice.

Starlight

Friend-
when the night
spreads across
the sky like a great sheet
and the stars become pinpricks
into heaven
think back
on all the happy nights
spent under that same sky.

Prince Waiting

Cinderella
poor girl
with your torn dress
just don't get your hopes up
because Fairy Godmothers
are hard to come by these days.

Blaze

Let it all burn down
my books
paintings
and memories
so I can pick through the ashes
and find what's really important.

Friend

Friend-
we enter a new path now
it might be twisted
filled with brush
or paved with bricks
we'll see where it goes.

Let's enjoy the adventure.

The Millenium

Some say
that before the end
there will be a thousand years
to prepare
for a glorious new earth.

I'm starting to think
we'll need that time
to clean up the old one.
