The Desert of Sinai

Send me to the desert
I am a rebellious child
My clothes won't rot
I'll be fed every day
I will spend my time
wandering
through arid sunsets
and craggy, windswept wild.

The wind will blow into my ears
Your promises
curses
and secrets.

Was this supposed to be a punishment?

Back to The Desert

I'm flying back to the desert today
but this one is flat
with no rocky mounts
and more sand.

I feel like I am cheating.

Breathless

Sometimes I feel,
when I am away from the desert
or a mountain
and sit alone in my apartment
Like my breath is being drawn from me
a ragged thread of life
slowly being pulled
out of my heart.
